King Edward Primary School Excitement + Determination = Success

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

The Revised Early Years Foundation Stage was introduced in September 2012.

Early years learning concentrates on 7 areas split between prime and specific areas of learning.

The prime areas of learning are:

  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, Social and Emotional development

The specific areas of learning are:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

Learning in all areas is done through play and games meaning that the majority of the time the children are unaware that learning is taking place. We make the learning in Nursery enjoyable and challenging through carefully planned exploratory activities.

Your child's development in these areas is recorded into what is known as an 'Early Years Foundation Stage Profile'. This goes with your child through Nursery and Reception and when complete is passed onto their Year 1 teacher.

At King Edward our half-termly topic, learning intentions and weekly activities are displayed in our main entrance along with general information, special events in Nursery, school and the local community.  Please continually check the white board for messages.

For any further information on the EYFS, any member of our Nursery team would be happy to answer your questions or you can find information using the link below:
