Barbara loves being a school governor at King Edward's. She brings to the role her experience in education (teacher, librarian, and learner) as well as her multicultural background and work experience. Using her track record in local government and as volunteer chair of significant local charities, she takes responsibility for health and safety at King Edward's as well as being involved in staff recruitment, selection and performance management.
I am Phee Smith a Community Governor. I have had a long and happy career in teaching and now I am enjoying being a Governor. I am originally from South Africa and I chose teaching as a career as I love children.
Our family all attended King Edward and I have been a governor here since 1987. I served on Mansfield District Council for 12 years and have served as a senior manager at secondary level. I am pleased to be able to support the school where my formal education began.
I have been a community and now co-opted Governor at King Edwards for the past 6 years. I live and work in the close local community. I am married with two children who have both happily attended King Edwards Primary school.
In my role as a governor I am a critical friend of the school, willing to ask questions, open to ideas and find my role at the school a rewarding and positive experience.
I have travelled extensively in Europe. I am an amateur gigging musician, golfer, enjoy dog walking and can best be described as an all-round “social, but old, geek” according to my kids!
I joined King Edward Primary School in January 2016. I work as ICT technician to support teachers, other members of staff and pupils with all IT related matters. I like working with children. When I have the opportunity I like to stand in front of the class. You can see me during some lessons, TGI activities etc. I also offer language support for Polish children and their parents when necessary. I am also currently a Governor for Asquith Primary School, Mansfield.
