English - Autumn
Our whole school English learning kicks off this year with a beautiful picture book entitled ‘The Tin Forest’, which is written by Helen Ward and will be a fantastic stimulus for lots of excellent topic and English work. In our English lessons, we will be using it to create contrasting setting descriptions, applying our understanding of relative clauses, fronted adverbials and expanded noun phrases.
We will then move on to a 3 week persuasive writing unit, culminating in a persuasive letter to Donald Trump linked to our Topic learning on climate change. Throughout this unit, we will be revisiting our understanding of the difference between formal and informal language and recapping our understanding of modal verbs and a range of persuasive techniques.
For the rest of the term, we will be using a fantastic book called 'The Wolves in the Walls' by Neil Gaiman as the stimulus for our writing and will be producing both diary entries and a narrative piece linked to this fabulous text.
Alongside our English learning, we will be deepening our grammatical understanding by revising key SPAG concepts, from a variety of punctuation to word classes and tenses.
