English Autumn 2
Our English learning (and class text) this half-term will be heavily linked with our topic work on World War II.
The units covered will include a non-chronological guide (based around Anti-Bullying Week), diary entries (linked to our upcoming visit to the Holocaust Centre) and opportunities to develop our narrative story-writing skills, including an emotive recount containing flashbacks and a fun-filled Christmas narrative written in role as... a brussel sprout!
Additionally, within our topic work in the afternoons, we will be engaging in letter writing and poetry-based activities (linked to WW2 and evacuation) as well as generating our own instructions based upon our own Anderson shelter models.
These genres will provide ample opportunities to continue to deepen our grammatical knowledge so that we are able to work at, and above, the expected standard in preparation for Y6 SATs.
Alongside our English learning, we will thus be revising key SPAG concepts, from punctuation such as parenthesis and semi-colons to word classes such as subordinating conjunctions and modal verbs and tenses such as the present perfect tense and conditional tenses, which, along with much more, form the basis of the Y6 grammar curriculum.
