Literacy is a specific area of the EYFS Curriculum. The Literacy curriculum is divided into two sections: Reading and Writing. At King Edward, Literacy sessions are delivered through story time, play and group activities. There are plenty of opportunities for children to explore and deepen their knowledge of reading and writing. At King Edward, we encourage home reading through our children's library.
Phonics - Phonics is taught on a daily basis during group time, focusing on Phase 1 and Phase 2 aspects. We provide a large focus on Phase 1 skills through Continuous Provision and through Phase 2 teaching skills. These sessions are followed up through identifying next steps for children using our OWLing focus board.
