In autumn 1, we are will be looking at 2 main units of maths: place value and, addition and subtraction. The key concepts we will cover are:
Place Value: reading, writing and comparing number up to 1 million; rounding to the nearest 1, 10, 100, 100, 1,000, 10,000 and 100,000; recognising and using roman numerals; and interpreting negative numbers in context.
Addition and Subtraction: using column method for subtracting and adding 5 digit numbers; using our learnt rounding skills to estimate; inverse operations and applying our skills to multi-step problems.
In autumn 2, we will be covering 3 units of maths: statistics, multiplication and division and area and perimeter. The key concepts we will cover are:
Statistics: interpret and draw line graphs and solve problems; and read and interpret tables and timetables.
Multiplication: Multiples, factors, prime numbers, square and cube numbers, multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000.
Area and Perimeter: measure and calculate the perimeter (the distance around the outside of a shape or object); and calculate the area of rectangles, compound and irregular shapes.
