English Spring 1
Our English learning (and class text) this half-term will be heavily linked with our topic work on ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’.
Our English learning (and class text ‘Malamander’) this half-term will be heavily linked with our topic work on ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’. For the first two weeks, we will be engaging with a whole-school narrative recount-writing project focused upon retelling ‘Partly Cloudy’ (a fantastic Pixar short film).
After that, we will be continuing with the story-writing, this time with an emphasis on classical fiction as we will be writing our own ‘Just So Stories’, Based on the work of Rudyard Kipling, these were phenomenal last year, so we are very excited to get the chance to do them again!
In the final two weeks of this half-term, we will be creating our own ‘Fantastic Beast’ and writing an explanation of its life-cycle! Due to the popularity of this topic and the sheer volume of possibilities, we have already extended it into the first two weeks of the next half-term too, when we will be bringing everything together and giving the children the opportunity to plan, draft and edit their very own Fantastic Beasts stories!
These genres will provide ample opportunities to continue to deepen our grammatical knowledge so that we are able to work at, and above, the expected standard. Alongside our English learning, we will be revising key SPAG concepts as usual, in order to ensure that we are as prepared as we possibly can be for Y6 SATs tests in May.
