White Post Farm

We have had a visit from the animals and reptiles from White Post Farm. We learnt about where they come from, where they live and what they eat. We were able to handle the animals and stroke them.

We have been using different skills to create different farm animals!

Name writing

We have been creating different farm animals using paint, sponges, tissue paper and material. We have been working hard at writing our name on our work.

Cutting fruit and vegetables

We have been learning all about fruit and vegetable that grows on a farm and how we look after them. We have been using knives to cut different vegetables and learning how to keep safe when using them.

Maths

We have been learning all about number 1. We have been showing 1 on our fingers, counting from a larger group and representing 1 on a 5 frame.

Art

We have been painting with different vegetables that grow on a farm such as potatoes and carrots.

Forest Learning: A ladybird hunt.

This week we have explored the outdoor area and searched for ladybirds. We have described ladybirds and looked art different photographs of ladybirds. We have worked in small groups to search for them in the woods.

Literacy

We have been learning about Oliver and what lives in the woods. We learnt about what animals are nocturnal and compared which animals come out during the day/night. We described an owl's features and had a go at drawing an owl.

Maths

We have been learning all about 2D shapes -‘Circle’, ‘Triangle’, ‘Rectangle’ and ‘Square’. We have been learning about their properties including their corners and sides. We have used shapes to draw around and used them to create pictures.

Understanding the World

We are exploring how flowers and celery can change colour when they are placed in coloured water. We worked together to mix the water with the food colouring and carefully place the flowers/celery into the test tubes. We predicted what we thought might happen. We will observe these this week and see if our predictions were right.

The King’s Coronation

This week we have engaged in different activities to support our understanding of the Coronation. We shared the story ‘A Colourful Coronation’ and learnt key vocabulary ‘King’. We have shared photographs of what the king will wear, what he might eat at the party and who will be at the Coronation.

Some of the activities were:

• Using tweezers to decorate King Charles’ crown
• Paint and create a crown using paint glitter and sponges
• Painting a flag
• Made string flags at Forest Schools using Red, White and Blue
• Cut and stick collage of his silhouette
• Made cucumber sandwiches and practised buttering using a knife
• Took part in our whole school street party on Friday

Science - Exploring Shadows

We have been exploring shadows and how they are formed. We have been using different sources if light to create shadows.

Maths

This week we have been learning how to position objects ‘on top’ and ‘under’. We have been using concrete objects to explore the different prepositions

Forest Learning

What will we find in the woodland?

This week we have been exploring our forest area by going on a woodland walk to explore what we might find in the woodland. We explored using our senses to smell, look and touch different materials. We planted some grass seeds and we are excited to observe them and take care of them each day.

Literacy

This week we have read ‘The Gruffalo’. We have learnt the nouns and verbs in the story. We have practised these each day. We have used our senses to explore different woodland materials such as pine cones, leaves and grass. We have gave meaning to marks of what we can remember from the story so far.

Maths

This week we have been sequencing events in the day, fictional and real. We have been using the vocabulary such as ‘first’, ‘then’ and ‘next. We have been linking this to our own experiences by practising and discussing our morning sequence before we come to nursery.

Baking

We have been decorating biscuits to look like the Gruffalo.

Manipulating clay

We have been using our fingers and hands to manipulate clay to create the Gruffalo.
