SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilties)

At King Edward Primary School, we believe every child should have the opportunity to enjoy learning and achieve their full potential. We are committed to providing a broad and balanced curriculum that meets the needs of all children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).

We carefully plan our curriculum and teaching to ensure appropriate support and reasonable adjustments are in place. By working closely with families and external professionals, we ensure that children receive the right support to help them thrive, in line with the SEND Code of Practice.

Our Inclusive Approach

Our Common Inclusion Goal reflects our commitment to creating an environment where everyone feels valued, respected and included. We promote diversity, fairness and a strong sense of belonging across our whole school community.

Here, everyone is encouraged to be their true self — feeling safe, seen and supported in an environment where compassion, courage, confidence, curiosity and community are at the heart of all we do. Every unique voice enriches our school family.

Our Aims

We aim to:

  • Create a nurturing and inclusive environment where every child feels safe, valued and supported, and where reasonable adjustments enable all children to succeed.

  • Identify and understand children’s special educational needs as early as possible, working in partnership with families and other professionals.

  • Celebrate each child’s strengths, individuality and achievements, building confidence, resilience and self-belief.

  • Promote positive outcomes in learning as well as personal, social and emotional development, while maintaining high expectations and ambitious aspirations.

  • Enable all children to take a full and active part in school life and access a broad and balanced curriculum wherever possible.

  • Provide high-quality teaching that is carefully adapted and personalised, fostering a love of learning and confidence to take on new challenges.
