EAL VISION
At King Edward Primary School, we celebrate and embrace the range of languages, cultures, and identities that our children and families bring. Our vision for English as an Additional Language (EAL) is rooted in inclusivity, respect, and the belief that every child’s heritage, language and culture is a strength to be valued and shared.
We are committed to creating a welcoming and supportive environment where EAL learners thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Through high-quality teaching, targeted support, and strong partnerships with families, we empower all EAL pupils to develop confidence and fluency in English while maintaining pride in their home language.
Together, we foster a school community where linguistic and cultural diversity enriches learning for everyone, promoting understanding, empathy, and global citizenship.
INTERVENTIONS
To support our EAL learners, we have 2 interventions that we use in school. Both of these are designed to support children's language development and learning of English. This will then benefit them in all areas of their learning.
Flash Academy
Flash Academy is used by EAL pupils in KS2 to support with their early acquisition of the English language. It offers a range of interactive lessons, assessments, and resources tailored to different age groups and proficiency levels. Children take part in this intervention twice a week.
Wellcomm
WellComm is a speech and language toolkit used to assess and support children's communication and language development. It helps identify children who may need extra support and provides resources for targeted interventions. At KEPS, all of our EYFS children are screened and those that need it take part in the intervention. However, Wellcomm is also used across school by any children who need it.
