Pantomime

This week we visited Mansfield Palace Theatre to watch the pantomime Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. We had lots of fun watching the performance, joining in with some singing and dancing and not to mention the delicious ice creams in the interval.

Maths

Our math focus has been the number two. We have worked hard on recognising the numeral, showing two using our fingers and placing two objects on a five frame.

Physical Friday

During our physical Friday sessions, we worked hard on practicing our ball skills and loved using the basketball hoop. We also tried to jump forward from standing. We kept both feet together, bent our knees and tried to jump as far as we could.

Autumn walk

The children explored signs of autumn on the school grounds. They felt the textures of pine cones and different coloured leaves.

Literacy

The children used their imagination and created a campfire like the one in the story 'Fletcher and the falling leaves' The children names the foods we cooked on the campfire.

Autumn 2 Week 2

Remembrance Day

We explored lots of poppy themed activities at the beginning of the week. We discussed why people may wear a poppy and were able to talk about where we had seen them in our wider environment.

Maths

Our focus in maths this week was the number one. We looked at recognising the numeral, showing one with our fingers and identifying one of a given object (one book, one star etc). We were also able to show one using a five frame.

Construction

Our construction area has been very popular. We have been creating amazing towers and structures using the different building materials and have worked together with friends cooperatively.

World Kindness Day

For World Kindness Day, we delivered some gifts of thanks to the people who help us when we are at school. We listened to a story about being kind and made our own kindness tree.

Children in Need

At the end of the week, we talked came in non-uniform for Children in Need. We took part in some special Pudsey activities as well as discussing how our donations can help other children.

Forest Schools

We went to visit our Forest Schools area and had lots of fun exploring the environment. We had different tools which we could use for digging and found some minibeasts. We also got to play on the trim trail too.

Literacy

Our focus for this week in Literacy has been the story The Best Diwali Ever by Sonali Shah. We talked about how and why people celebrate Diwali, we explored rangoli patterns with coloured rice and we created our own firework pictures.

Fine motor activities

To work on our fine motor skills, this week, we have worked hard to learn how to thread beads onto pieces of string.

Outdoor learning

The weather was lovely this week, so we enjoyed spending lots of time in our outdoor learning environment. The mud kitchen and outdoor math’s areas were our particular favourites.

Physical Friday

We have really enjoyed exploring all the gross motor activities during our physical Friday sessions. We explored using hoops, travelling through tunnels, walking on stilts and balancing on wobbly boards.

Pasta

We have been learning about senses this week and the pasta in the messy tray area helped us talk about this. We could make different noises with the pasta in the various containers, and we began to talk about how the pasta felt in our hands. Some of us even said we like to eat pasta.

Play dough

The play dough area has been lots of fun this week. This area helps with our fine motor development as we have practised rolling and cutting the play dough as well as shaping and squeezing it with our hands and fingers.

Role play

This week, we have really enjoyed exploring our home corner. We have enjoyed taking on roles and carrying out tasks that are familiar to us such as cooking and ironing.

Water play

The water tray has been very popular this week, we have had fun splashing, pouring and scooping water. We also enjoyed sailing the boats and watching the water fall down the water wheel.

Creative and messy play

We have been able to explore paint in different ways this week. We used cotton reels to make prints on paper and also mixed paint with shaving foam in a tuff spot.

Construction

We have been building some amazing structures using different types of wooden blocks. Some creations have been built individually, whilst others have been constructed by working together with friends.

Literacy

We read a book about different types of families and have been able to share information about our family with our friends. We also spent some time drawing ourselves and our family members on large sheets of paper.

Being Creative

We have explored lots of materials and used them to make a face. We tried to think about our facial features and represent each using some of the loose parts.

Maths

Our focus for maths this week has been to work on identifying colours.

We have named and sorted colours as well as finding objects that are a specific colour.

Autumn 1 Week 1 & 2

Starting Nursery

We have really enjoyed starting nursery and getting to know our teachers and our new friends. We have explored all the areas inside and outside and discovered new resources to play with.

We are beginning to understand the routines and expectations in nursery and have enjoyed snack times together.
