Literacy
Our literacy topic this week was based on the book Rumble in the Jungle by Giles Andreae. We talked about different animals from the jungle, what they looked like, how they moved and the sounds they made. We also talked about whether then spent their time in water, on land, in trees or in more than one place. We also worked collaboratively to draw jungle animals.
Physical Friday
We had a crocodile infested lake appear in nursery on Friday and we had so much fun carefully balancing to cross the bridge. We certainly didn’t want those crocodiles snapping at our feet!
Role play
Dressing up as jungle animals and explorers was so much fun, we loved using the binoculars to see what we could discover.
Fine Motor
We were able to strengthen our fine motor skills this week by squeezing pegs to make a lion’s mane, helping animals escape from the jungle vines by unravelling them and writing our names. We also loved the jungle animal jigsaws.
Creative
There were so many creative experiences to explore this week. Using forks to help us create a lion’s mane, sticking colourful feathers to the parrot and using circular stampers to paint crocodiles and snakes.

Learning through play
We have continued to learn through our play in nursery and have been particularly interested in the construction area, sand and the home corner.
Jackson Pollock
This week we have looked at different pieces of art by Jackson Pollock. We tried to create our own art using colour and shape. We create art on paper with felt tip pens, paintbrushes and pipettes. We also created art using our hands in the tuff spot with paint and shaving foam. It’s been lots of fun.
Maths
For maths, we have focused on the number 3. We have looked at recognising 3 objects as well as the numeral, we have counted to 3 and shown 3 using our fingers or objects.

New half-term and new friends
Our first week back at nursery was spent getting back into the routine after the holiday and also welcoming lots of new friends to our class. We had fun exploring lots of areas of learning within our environment.
Literacy
The first Literacy topic this half term has been based around the story ‘Monkey Puzzle’ by Julia Donaldson. We enjoyed becoming familiar with the story and joining in with the repeated phrases. We made some butterflies and monkeys within the provision and worked as a team to draw characters from the story too.
