    Police vehicle visit

At the end of the week, we had a special visit from our local Police team. They came to school with their Police van and we were able to get inside the front and the back. We looked at all the equipment and even turned the siren on and off.

    Literacy

This week, our focus text is The Runaway Train by Benedict Blathwayt. We enjoyed listening to the story, made a train using our bodies and duplo and even made a train and tunnel outside with the wooden bricks. We enjoyed chugging through the tunnel!

    Messy play

Our trains and vehicles got very messy this week as they travelled through the shaving foam and beans! We had lots of fun and got very messy. We were not sure about the beans at first but soon started to enjoy playing with them.

    Crafts

We had fun experimenting with the train sponges and printing pictures with them this week.

    Fine motor

To help with our fine motor development, we carefully placed lollipop sticks in the shape of a train track. We also rolled playdough to make a track and add other features to the train mats.

    Mystery reader

We found the clues for this mystery reader a little tricky, we knew she helped things get better but didn’t know what it was when we knew it wasn’t people, we didn’t think about animals until we had an extra clue.

The vet came to read a fantastic new story and showed us some of the things she uses in her job.

    Making new friends

Over the last two weeks, we have had some new friends join us in nursery. It has been fun getting to know them and show them around. We have helped them to settle and shared our resources with them.

    Maths

Our maths focus this week has been to look at more and fewer. We have been comparing amounts between groups and identifying which has more and which has fewer.

We had another mystery reader this week it was Jackie from Kings Mill Hospital. She read us a lovely story and told us about her job where she organises operations dates and checks up on patients before they go home.

    Creative

We have had lots of fun driving different vehicles through paint and then onto pieces of paper this week. The vehicles made some great tyre tracks across the paper.

    Fine Motor

To help develop our fine motor skills, we spent some time threading beads on to pieces of lace. We also helped our fingers become nice and strong by taking part in dough disco.

    Literacy

Our literacy topic this week has been focussed around the story Mr Grumpy’s Motor Car by John Burningham. We enjoyed getting to know the story and drawing some of the characters we met.

    Transport

To link with our literacy and topic work, we have been exploring lots of different transport using small world toys and activities. We have had lots of fun building tracks and driving vehicles through zigzag, curved and straight roads.
