Week 3
BRITISH SCIENCE WEEK - CHANGE AND ADAPT
10th -14th March
For this year's theme, Year 3's have looked at "forever plastics" and thought about how we can change our ways when it comes to plastic use. The children looked at microplastics, how long they take to degrade in our seas and oceans and the impact it has on our environment and our planet. They thought about different plastic items they use and suitable alternatives which can be re-used or is better for the planet.
Maths
This week was the last week learning about length and perimeter. The children have enjoyed this unit and have learned how to find the perimeter of regular shapes.
English
The children have been building up to a narrative piece based on the text The Wolves in the Walls where they are writing a spooky setting description and including some dialogue between characters. This is the first time they have learned how to punctuate speech properly and how effective it can be when telling a story or moving a plot forward.
Art Gallery Showcase
In both classes, the children have been preparing for their art gallery showcase on Friday afternoon to show parents/carers and families their work in art this term. Our artist study is Kirsty Lorenz and the children created water colour pieces using a bouquet of flowers they arranged.
Week 4
English - Narrative writing
This week, we finished our piece based on Wolves in the Walls. The children have learned how to punctuate speech and write a spooky setting description.
Music - Composition
The children have started their composition unit where they created sounds to accompany a story. They thought about using a combination of pitched, unpitched instruments and body percussion.
PE - Tag Rugby
In PE this term, the children have learned how to play tag rugby. They have practised different skills and learning the rules and strategy when playing in an attacking or defensive position.
Week 5
Community Outreach - Willow Tree Care Home
Some year 3 children spent an afternoon singing to some elderly residents at a local care home. The children spread joy around and showed the true power of music connecting people. The children have learned serveral Easter hymns and songs and performed these to an audience. They ended the visit off with a surprise from the Easter bunny!
Maths - Fractions
We have started our fractions unit and the children have learned so much already! In Elm class, the children identify the fraction of the class who are present each day during register and the fraction who are absent. They are applying their knowledge to real life events!
