Week 2
Music - The children have been practising a traditional Maori folk song for their end of year presentation. They are using body percussion and have found singing and moving quite difficult.
English - We have been looking at portal stories and the children will be creating their own portal story (based off of Stone Age Boy). We have been looking at adjectives and how they differ from good characters and bad characters.
Art - We have started looking at the sculptor Henry Moore. The children have started the process by sculpting faces out of Play-Doh. Have a look below!
Summer 2
Week 1
Guided Reading - We have started looking at some prehistoric beasts, starting with the Siberian Unicorn!
Community Action Week - A group of children worked with Mrs Goddard to work on a new musical area for our OPAL play scheme.
Beatboxing and Break Dancing workshop!
Week 5
English - The children have written the first part of their portal story based on the book The Stone Age Boy. The have been practising writing dialogue between two character.
Science - Rocks, rocks and more rocks! we have looked at different types of rocks this week - igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic. Watching volcanoes erupting, lava pouring down the sides and solidifying was amazing to see!
Music - For our performance unit, we have been learning various body percussion songs as a class.
Buddy reading - We finished the term off with having free choice reading. We could choose from magazines, topic books, graphic novels and could share them with a friend.
Week 4
Science - This week the children have started the new unit: Rocks. They have been working scientifically and focussing on sorting different rocks, thinking about a range of ways they could sort them.
RE - Learning about the importance of the Ten Commandments to Jewish and Christian people. The children were thinking about these commandments and how they link to some of the British Values.
Reading - It was Year 3's turn to visit the school library this week and they spent some time reading for pleasure outside int he shade and spend time sharing texts with their friends!
Week 3
English - This week the children have written all about the life of Mary Anning. Once they had written their final piece, they shared this with the Year 1 children.
PE - The children have starter their new unit this term which is called Outdoor Adventure which builds resilience and team work skills as well as tennis.
Guided Reading - The children have started reading The Boy Who Grew Dragons and are beginning to make links to their learning from our history topic.
Week 2
Science - we finished off our plants topic with a practical activity where we looked at different seeds and thought about how they would be dispersed in nature.
Once we worked in our groups, we could record our data however we wanted to - bar chart, tally chart or pictogram.
Maths - We have started our Mass and Capacity unit and were comparing masses this week. Sometimes we found it tricky to read scales, but by the end of the week we persevered and it became a little easier!
Music - Last week we learned the names of different tuned and untuned instruments and looked at where they stood when they performed (on stage). This week we focussed on tuned and untuned percussion and played a game of charades to show how different percussion instruments could be played!
Summer 1
Week 1
English- This week we have started our new topic: The Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. We started looking at the life of Mary Anning in English and how important she was.
Guided Reading - In line with our dinosaur themed week, we are looking at a short text from The Bedtime Book of Impossible Questions: How so we know what dinosaurs were like? We are learning so many new facts whilst focussing on retrieval skills.
History - Raife brought in some fossils from home and shared them with the class. We read through a fact sheet of this "Fossils starter guide" and the children loved seeing ammonites up close rather than in the pages of a book!
