King Edward Primary School and Nursery Inspiring Hearts, Shaping Minds

Spring

Week 12 - Taking part in the King Ed’s Easter Bonnet Parade for the last time!

Week 12 - Showing off our certificates after the DAaRT graduation ceremony (and, of course, giggling when Muna FINALLY realised that she was holding her certificate upside down, as well as when Johnathan decided to pose for his 'mug shot').

Week 12 - Practising our fractions, decimals and percentages arithmetic understanding with a team game as part of our revision!

Week 11 - Applying our classification key learning from the recent practical science with sweets to animal species.

Week 11 - Using the tables to create our own timelines to sequence the events of our 'Little Badman'!

Week 11 - Learning about what 'Sunday' means to Christians. We heard all about the experiences of Christian children in our class and learnt so much by hearing from them about how they worship and pray. We also used Google Maps to look at churches we've been to from around the world, including Slovakia, Poland and Italy.

Week 10 - Hard at work decorating our own DAaRT t-shirts with fabric pens ready for our graduation in a couple of weeks!

Week 10 - SPAG practice focusing on main and subordinate clauses. We wrote sentences using a really interesting, dramatic image as a stimulus.

Week 10 - Excited about the new reading corner in Pine Classroom! It's so comfortable, no-one wanted to leave!

Week 9 - Group work focused on researching a given biome's physical geography and then creating a Keynote about it (which we then cast onto the interactive whiteboard and presented).

Week 9 - An 'art gallery' where we gave constructive feedback to each other (and some comments that were just nice to hear too!) about our final pieces before getting cracking with our evaluation pages.

Week 9 - Maths outdoors with our learning partners to make the most of the lovely weather and get some fresh air!

Week 8 - World Book Day fun! We came to school in our pyjamas and read in some very unusual ways in Y6, creating reading nests with our chairs and under our tables!

Week 8 - Classifying sweets in our practical science hook lesson to kickstart our new science unit ahead of British Science Week (and, of course, eating them at the end!) We even had a bit of an impromptu go at the 'Skittles experiment'.

Week 8 - Virtual visit with incredible historical fiction writer Matt Wainwright (whose book we've been reading in Guided Reading this week) as part of our Y6 World Book Day celebrations. He spoke about the daily life and writing process of an author and enabled us to take part in a very exciting 'choose your own adventure' type activity, as well as to ask him questions.

Week 7 - James Ketchell visited KEPS today! He did assemblies in the morning and then workshops with Y6 in the afternoon.

Week 7 - Lena and Paula really impressed Miss Parsons with their amazing pieces of optional creative homework. Lena's been channeling David Attenborough and observing a squirrel in her garden since SEPTEMBER and Paula has written a fantastic story about dragons based on our new English unit!

Week 7 - Kicking off our new unit by exploring the features and abilities of different dragons and designing our own dragons (complete with life cycles).

Week 6 - Using 'How to draw videos...' to practise drawing Galapagos animals. They turned out really well!

Week 6 - Posters linked to 'Safer Internet Day 2025'. We invited parents into school to share our learning about online safety this week. Here are pictures of the posters we made in one of our computing lessons.

Week 6 - Cricket session in the hall, showing off everything we've learnt in this PE unit!

Week 5 - 'Battle of the Beaks' investigation in science, in order to carry out own comparative test and investigate Darwin's hypothesis about the Galapagos Island finches.

Week 5 - 'Graffiti maths' with our partners to help us to revise ready for our SATs in May.

Week 5 - Ginger cake tasting as part of our Hansel and Gretel unit, in order to help us to come up with descriptive language for the house.

Week 4 - Some examples of our art so far in our 'Mary Ellen Taylor' inspired unit.

Week 4 - Computing activity focused on the impact of words said online. Once put out there, they can't be taken back, just like the toothpaste we tried to get back into the tube, despite how inventive Tommy tried to be about it!

Week 4 - 'History of Fashion' workshop organised through Mansfield Museum enabled us to recap our history learning over the past 6 years. Here are some of the mood boards we made!

Week 3 - Using the sorting rings to compare the leaders of the Salvation Army and Islamic Relief in RE!

Week 3 - Trip to Wollaton Hall to take part in an evolution workshop and other exciting activities.

Week 3 - Just some of our 'Readers of the Week' with their favourite books.

Week 2 - Exploring the Buxton exhibit at Mansfield Museum and learning all about watercolour paintings of the local area.

Week 2 - Practical protractor skills (involving drawing on the tables to practise!)

Week 1 - Zoolab visited to introduce us to Charles Darwin's theories of evolution firsthand by meeting some animals that he would have come across on his voyage and hearing all about how they have adapted and evolved.

Week 1 - Story-mapping Charles Darwin's life based on a picture book to help us to find out who he was and what he did.

Week 1 - Zones of Regulation introductory afternoon to help us all with our emotional literacy, in terms of recognising and understanding our feelings.
