Thursday 21st November - Playing football with Mansfield Town FC! Today, we took part in some brilliant activities before actually taking part in some mini matches. We were even able to take responsibility for planning out our own formations! We had to stay inside because of the leftover snow, but it was still great!
Tuesday 19th November - SNOW DAY! Here's some pics of us having a fab time in the snow.
13th November - This afternoon, we applied all our learning about Henry Moore gained in our art unit so far this term to our final pieces. It was a bit messy, but that was all part of the fun and we really managed to apply Moore's style to our own pieces, showing great understanding.
Wednesday 13th November - We had a visitor from the Holocaust Centre who led a fantastic half day session with each class focused on the life of a young German Jewish boy called Leo during WWII. We used artefacts and videos to learn all about how his life changed during Hitler's time in power. In English, we will soon be writing our own diary entries in role as Leo too, based on our experiences today.
Tuesday 12th November - Anti-Bullying Week and Odd Socks Day. We took part in an online lesson about bullying lesson (featuring Hacker T Dog and other CBBC characters). Additionally, we learnt all about this year’s theme 'Choose Respect' and created our own jigsaw puzzle pieces linked to this. Here’s an example... and some of our odd socks too of course!
Wednesday 6th November - WWII experience day at Mansfield Museum. We recapped our WWII understanding so far with a range of drama and museum activities linked to the declaration of war and life at home during the war.
October 2024 - We were very lucky to explore firsthand WWII experiences by speaking to Mr Ellis, who actually attended KEPS during the war! We prepared questions to ask him and were able to learn all about the Dunkirk soldiers that were billeted at our school and the air-raid shelter in the school field!
October 2024 - Prior to our visit with Mr Ellis, we explored how our local area has changed over time using both digital and hand-drawn maps (and considering their reliability). We began by exploring Google Earth, which we found very exciting too!
October 2024 - We took part in an online National Archives session. Focusing on propaganda, it enabled us to explore the different types, including why they were used during WWII and to evaluate them in terms of which were the most/least effective.
October 2024 - In English, the whole year group spent the lesson in the hall taking part in an exciting 'Blitz experience'. After doing some prep work involving returning to the text, we took part in a drama activity that involved us being sent into an 'air-raid shelter' at the back of the hall. It really helped us to come up with vocabulary and get into the right mindset for our writing.
September 2024 - 'Tis the season... Or is it? An early start with our Christmas card designs today so they can be sent home and ordered in time.
September 2024 - After recapping electrical symbols, we had a go at drawing our own circuits as part of our science learning.
September 2024 - In maths, we applied our developing understanding of square and cube numbers to solve some tricky Nrich problems in groups.
September 2024 - To kick off our DT unit (which focuses on designing and building our own air-raid shelters) we explored different kinds of shelter and compared them using the sorting rings.
September 2024 - We recapped our knowledge of WWII so far by sorting statements into 'true' or 'false' columns with our partners.
October 2024 - Children from Pine class have brought in some very interesting artefacts over the past few weeks linked to our WWII topic. Here's Ralph's medals, Tommy's foldable shovel and Ella's great grandad's book!
September 2024 - We began to get to grips with our new class book 'Letters From the Lighthouse' in Guided Reading by creating an 'OWI' grid.
September 2024 - In English, we took part in a hot-seating activity in role as 'The Wolf' from our whole-school text. The attitude and character we managed to get across was very impressive!
September 2024 - We applied our understanding of how the war began and who was involved by re-creating a poster from memory. We only had 10 seconds at a time to come to the front and look at it so we had to work really well together to remember the key information.
September 2024 - In history, we listened to Chamberlain's announcement of war and then created some freeze frames and thought tracks about how we would be feeling to help us with our written work.
September 2024 - Pine class loved our first Y6 trip! We travelled on the train to Nottingham and explored the Galleries of Justice. We took part in an incredibly interesting (and slightly scary!) tour and then, in the afternoon, we were even able to take part in our own mock trial... in a real courtroom!
September 2024 - In our first history lesson this year, we explored the early life and rise to power of Adolf Hitler by creating a toilet roll timeline.
July transition days - We used 'How to draw...' videos to sketch our favourite villains. They were very impressive!
July transition days - Here's an example of one of the 'Grammar Through Poetry' poems that we created during the transition days whilst getting to know each other.
