We had a fantastic day with BMX Mike Mullen 2019 World half pipe champion. The children were treated to an assembly and BMX display. Mrs Goddard, Mrs Daniels and Mrs Bridges were very brave letting him jump over them. Mike spoke about the power of sport and how it can improve mindset, confidence and wellbeing. How it can help to build belief, find courage, boost resilience and unlock hidden potential. However Mike never thought of myself as particularly active or sporty as a child. Until at Aged 11 he saw the film ET and a TV show called BMX. He remembered the feeling of excitement watching the stunts, the bikes and brave role models within BMX freestyle. Becoming inspired and fascinated with the sport which pushed the boundaries of what's possible on a bike. Every trick or competition was a challenge. Always dangerous and often painful. Facing these daily challenges as a BMX rider, he learnt to find courage, become independent, resourceful and to build resilience. Transferring Growth Mindset and life skills I learned from riding BMX into many other areas of life. Children from year 4 were then treated to worksop with Mike learning how to ride a BMX and perform tricks and skills.
