At King Edward Primary School, our music curriculum intends to inspire creativity, self-expression and encourages our children on their musical journeys. A key intention is that children gain a firm understanding of what music is through listening, singing, playing, evaluating, analyzing and composing across a wide variety of historical periods with key composers learnt in every year group. We hope to foster a life long love of music by exposing the children to diverse musical experiences and igniting a passion for music whilst developing a curiosity for the subject. We strive to give children an understanding and acceptance of the validity and importance of all types of music and respect for the role that music may plat in any persons life. By listening and responding to different musical styles, finding their voices as singers and performers and as composers, all enable them to become confident and reflective musicians. We teach our music linked to our termly topics all supported by our skills and knowledge progression documents
Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. (The National Curriculum).
