King Edward Primary School and Nursery Excitement + Determination = Success

Summer

Year 1 have been learning all about food technology. We have learnt about healthy eating, and as part of this, we designed and created our own healthy fruit salad. We especially enjoyed creating and eating our salads.

During our author days, we also spent some time with 4RB doing some buddy reading, in their classroom & in our school library. We have also researched 3 authors - Jill Murphy, Julia Donaldson & Oliver Jeffers, and thought about our favourite book by each other, and then created a poster about each author.

Author days - we spent some time working with the author Adrian Beeden. He helped us to create a plan for our own books, and then in class we used our plan to write our own story. Our stories are going to be kept in school, for the new Year 1s to read in September.

Year 1 had a great day exploring Matlock Park Farm. They fed lots of different animals, were able to pet a rabbit and 2 guinea pigs, and had a good play. Even a bit of rain couldn't dampen our spirit. A thoroughly good day was had by all and memories were made.

Year 1 have been learning all about being a Christian. We have learnt about churches, and the key features in a church. Then we learnt about the events that can happen in a church. After learning all about weddings, we had our own class wedding.

Year 1 enjoyed creating some beautiful stained glass windows in our RE lesson today.

PSHE - talking points on washing our hands. Today, we did the pepper and soap experiment to show them the importance of washing our hands. First we put our finger into some water which had pepper on the top. Then we did the same thing but this time we had put soap onto our finger.
